Rice cooking basics with almond rice recipe

A Look at Rice When cooking rice the size of the grain is the most important thing. Due to the thousands of varieties of rice found all over the world which have differing flavors and aromas, it can be problematic to find the exact right one for your dish. Long-grain rice usually runs four to five times long as it does wide. It is typically dry and fluffy after it is cooked. The grains do not clump. Some examples of long grain rice are Basmati (aromatic, having a rich nutty flavor; used a lot in Indian cooking), brown long-grain rice (husk removed with a nutritious bran layer, slightly chewy, mild nutty flavor), finishing off with white or polished long-grain rice (most widely used; has mild flavor). Uses for long-grain rice mainly are steamed, baked, pilaf, and a rice salad. Short-grain rice has an almost round shape, is very starchy and tends to stick together after it has been cooked. It’s sometimes known as “sticky-rice”. Examples of short-grain rice are Arborio rice (creamy texture to dishes) and glutinous rice or sweet rice (very sticky after cooked; used in lot of Asian desserts and snacks). Short-grain rice is great for puddings, risotto, croquettes, sushi, stir-fried rice, and molded rice dishes. Medium-grain rice has a size smaller than long-grain yet bigger than short-grain thus the name medium-grain rice. It is more tender than long grain rice and yet less moist than short grain rice. It is typically fluffy and separate when served hot and then starts to clump as it cools. Cooking Rice To Steam Rice: measure the water and salt amounts suggested for the type of rice you are cooking. This is usually found on the box or bag. Mix the salt and water together and pour it into a saucepan and then bring the combination to a boil. Add the rice to the boiling salted water and stir. Bring the water to a boil again then cover the saucepan, steaming the rice, on a very low heat until the rice has engrossed all the salted water and is tender. This normally takes 15 to 18 minutes for white rice and 35 to 40 minutes for brown rice. Remove the pan from the heat and let set for about 5 minutes. Prior to rationing the rice to your troops fluff it with a fork. Troops love fluffy rice. To Sautй and Steam Rice (pilaf): Measure some salt and water for your rice and bring to a boil. While waiting for the water to boil heat oil or butter in a saucepan at medium heat. You can also use a mixture of the two. Add the rice to the molten butter or what have you and rouse till the rice is fully coated. “Sautй” for 2 to 3 minutes, rousing in a consistent fashion. Now add the salted water you have been boiling to the sautйed rice and bring the mixture to a boil. Again we steam the rice by putting a lid on the pan, turn the heat down to low or lower and then wait till the rice and soaked in all the water and has become a tender spectacle. To Bake Rice: Preheat your sweet oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Get that salted water boiling, while waiting for boiling point add your measured amount of rice to a baking dish. When ready add the boiling water to the rice in the baking dish. Cover the dish tightly, for cleanliness, baking efficiency, and safety when removing the dish from the oven. Use tin foil or an oven safe lid and bake at the preheated temperature until the rice has absorbed the water and is a tender delicacy. White rice takes about 20 to 30 minutes, while brown rice takes any where from 35 to 45 minutes. Baking times differ depending on you oven, altitude from the moon or sun, and how tightly sealed your dish is. Almond Rice Recipe 4 cups rice (Long Grain) 8 cups chicken broth 4 Tbl parsley (substitute rosemary, sage, tarragon, or thyme, to taste of course) 1 Ѕ cup celery. chopped fine 1 Ѕ cup onion, chopped fine OR ѕ cup minced dried onion 1 cup slivered almonds Sautй onion and celery in just enough broth to cover. Add 8 cups chicken broth. Add rice and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let steam about 20 minutes. If there is too much liquid left when rice is cooked, take off lid and cook and stir until liquid is gone. Just before serving, add parsley and 1 cup slivered almonds. If you used dried parsley, add it while there is still a little water in the pan.

People are afraid that they will make mistakes, have a lack of understanding, have to do more work and quickly learn something new. People that are comfortable with their work habits know that change means putting forth more effort and energy, at least at the inception. Leaders of the organization must take charge of the change. It’s easy to blame a failed system on “those people who refused to conform” or “bad software”. Ultimately though it is the responsibility of the manager to build a good user team and encourage proper use of the software. Without a team that is willing and taught to work together, any system is bound to fail. System success is heavily reliant upon:

• Communication of benefits and how the system will be used


• Support from senior executives and managers illustrated by their own behavior

Senior executives and management need to provide as much support as possible, illustrated by how they use the system. Managers must also support the learning curve and adjust performance expectations for a given period. Everything may not go well day 1 even with exceptional planning and the best of software. If certain individuals refuse to participate, some action must be taken. Adequate training must be provided so that users are comfortable with how to use the tools available. Training should include how the various people within the organization will be working together.

There should be a change management team that keeps a pulse on the situation with plans for appropriate intervention where appropriate. Original goals should constantly be referred to, and modifications should be made when necessary. Ways to involve the users can be periodic management chat sessions that encourage the exchange of ideas (small groups are best); a centralized master bulletin where ideas are posted; senior managers wandering through the organization asking questions and soliciting opinions; a reward system for positive behaviors regarding the system; a reinforcement that staying as is would be more of a threat than moving forward with the changes. Make sure to publicize success stories within the organization related to the system.

Shopping and selling on eBay can be one of the most rewarding experiences on the Internet. However you need to be careful of scam artists who will try to take advantage of you through various types of fraud. If you do get scammed on eBay there are ways you can get your money back. However, it is very difficult to ever catch the fraud artist and it is a lot simpler if you can recognize and avoid frauds from the beginning. One of the scams that are very common today is fake e-mails that appear to originate from eBay or PayPal or even your bank. Keep in mind that anybody can spoof any e-mail address and send an e-mail that appears to be from somebody else. It is even possible to spoof an e-mail coming from the president of the United States. So when you see any e-mail in your inbox that comes from eBay or PayPal and asks you to log in to confirm your password the chances are that this is a scam. E-mails that you receive of this type will have eBay letterheads or PayPal letterheads and will direct you to a link that appears to be eBay or PayPal. However, if you look closely at the bottom of your browser you’ll generally see that the domain these links point to is not actually an eBay or PayPal domain. It just looks like eBay’s web site, but it is actually a scam site asking you to confirm your password. Once you put in your username and password the fraud artist has it. One of the more popular tactics being used right now is to send a fake payment notification from PayPal suggesting that you have paid for something which you did not buy. The e-mail and includes a link right in the center that says “dispute this charge”, and once you click on that link you are taken to a page that looks like PayPal but is actually a fraudulent web site designed to get you to enter your username and password. One of the easiest ways to protect yourself on eBay is to use PayPal for all transactions. PayPal is a wholly-owned subsidiary of eBay, and so transactions that are paid for via PayPal can be easily disputed. Since it is in eBay’s interest to maintain a secure shopping environment they are generally very quick to resolve disputes that originate by PayPal. If you buy an item and are not satisfied with it and feel like the seller did not deliver what he promised, it is far easier to dispute that transaction fee with PayPal because eBay can reverse the funds themselves. If you purchased by money order or credit card or some other payment method, eBay does not have the opportunity to reverse charges without going through a third-party. Whether you are buying or selling items is a good idea to stick with PayPal. If you are selling items it is a good idea to only except PayPal as a payment option. The last thing you need is to get a bad check, or have your buyer dispute his credit card charge. It is no secret that most of the male and female tour players who want to play their best golf, do golf weight training exercises. But it’s not the kind of grueling, sweating stuff you’re thinking about. There is a HUGE misconception of what and how this type of program should be done. It does not take going into a gym and lifting heavy weights; nor does it take a 2-3 hour daily commitment. I have seen many “so-called” golf weight training programs, books, and videos etc that do in fact show the golfer in the gym and on machines. Sitting on a machine, isolating one muscle group is not golf-specific or sport-specific for that matter. Golf is a dynamic movement done on your feet. Sitting in a machine in a “controlled” environment will not improve your swing. The golf swing incorporates most of the muscles of the body in a sequential motion. I hope you can now see sitting in a machine won’t improve that. So what truly is a ‘golf-specific’ program? For starters, doing a lot of exercise ‘on your feet’ and in your golf posture will help. The more you can get in your posture and strength train, the quicker the benefit to your game. Golf also involves balance and stabilization. To improve this takes a concentrated effort on core work and exercises involving balance (such as one-legged exercises). The more popular golf-exercises are done on a stability ball; using exercise tubing; handweights; and even weighted medicine balls. This allows you to do many dynamic movements similar to your golf swing, directly relating to more power, distance and accuracy. These pieces of equipment are very inexpensive and portable. You can have a complete golf fitness gym in your home for under $100 easily. For example, exercise tubing is approximately $20 and you can immediately do golf swings with it. This is as golf-specific as you can get. Doing your actual movement with resistance will dramatically increase your power output. There are dozens of simple, golf weight training exercises you can do with the above equipment (and in your home). The beauty of this type of golf training is saving time and money, but most importantly making it fun and enjoyable. When you do these types of golf weight training exercises you will be encouraged that it will be the missing link to your best game. Often, we try to get on the fitness, weight-loss bandwagon, only to quit after just a week or so. With the above type of training, your doing both. You not only see a dramatic improvement in your game, but the icing on the cake is looking and feeling better. Trust me... :-) So here it is: Red Lobster Chocolate Lava Cakes Number of servings: 6 persons Ingredients:

• Nonstick cooking spray


• 6 (1 ounce) squares semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped


• 10 tablespoons unsalted butter or margarine, at room temperature


• 1/2 cup granulated sugar


• 1/2 cup flour


• 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder


• 3/4 teaspoon baking powder


• 3 large eggs, at room temperature


• 1 (10 ounce) package frozen raspberries thawed, purйed in blender


• Fresh raspberries, optional


• 1/2 cup heavy cream, softly beaten


• Fresh mint sprigs, optional


• Confectioners' sugar for dusting, optional

Instructions 1. Spray inside 6 individual custard cups or soufflй dishes with nonstick cooking spray; then set aside. In small heavy saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate, stirring until smooth. Add butter and sugar; stir until melted. 2. Pour chocolate mixture into large bowl. In small bowl, mix together flour, cocoa, and baking powder. 3. With electric mixer at medium-high speed, beat chocolate mixture; add eggs and flour mixture; beat about 6 minutes until thickened. Divide mixture evenly among prepared dishes; cover with plastic wrap. Freeze at least 2 hours or overnight. 4. Heat oven to 375 degrees F. 5. Remove and discard plastic from frozen cakes.
